The Department of Physics at P.D. women’s college was established in the year 1970 with the mission to impart quality education to the girl students of the region in the field of physics. At present, the department offers four years Under Graduate programme course under NEP and Honours & programme course under CBCS (for old batches) in physics. Experienced and dedicated faculty members are at the heart of the department. Currently there are five professors and two laboratory staff in the department. Faculty members are committed to providing personalized attention and mentorship to the students, fostering an environment conducive to learning. The department of physics boasts of six well-equipped laboratories that provide the students with hands-on experience in experimental Physics. A dedicated computer laboratory having 10 desktop PCs with internet facilities has been set-up in the physics department to cater to the needs of the students for computational practical classes. The department also supports its students through a small in-house reference library facility in addition to the central library. In recent years the department has observed 100% success rate in the final year Physics (Honours) examination. After graduation from this department, students have a wide choice of career opportunities to pursue postgraduate studies by enrolling themselves for different science/ applied science/ technical / professional courses in India and abroad. Several alumni of this department have become engaged in higher education and research activities in different IITs, Universities and Research institutes in India and abroad. Further a number of alumni are well established in sectors such as education, civil services, healthcare, law enforcement, banking, finance, logistics, IT and social services.
